This painting started out as a watercolour on full sheet 300 lb rough Arches. I was looking for greater colour values than I could achieve with the usual watercolour techniques so overpainted the watercolour layer with some Casein Tempera to enhance the dark values. Finally in select areas I applied a clear liquid pastel ground and added Soft (chalk) pastel to highlight certain colours. The painting was inspired by abstracting an area night scene of a harbour.
